Obituary for Margaret Nina Thielk (Kahakauwila)
Margaret Nina Kahakauwila Thielk, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2022, at her home in Peahi , at the age of 88 , surrounded by family.
She was born on July 7, 1933 in Wailuku, Maui, to parents John and Anekona “Annie” Kahakauwila.
She was raised by her sisters, Elizabeth“Sabina” Gavino and Malia Siquig on Oahu. She attended McKinley High School, then moved to Maui and went to Baldwin High School. In 1951, she married Morado “Mike” Augustin and they were blessed with seven children. Her second marriage in 1968, was to David Thielk and the family was blessed with three more children.
She is survived by her 10 children: Christine “Chris” (Richard) Trier, Linda Lara (Rob Knake), Michael (Maile Luuwai) Augustin, Gary (Susy) Augustin, Bryan (Sonnie Jean) Augustin, Shirley “Shirlene” (Roy) Gurat, Randy “Augie”( Lahela) Augustin, Derrick “Kai” (Marla “Nalani”) Thielk, Hauoli Thielk, Andrea “Anela” (Brandon) Bullock, 28 Grandchildren, 35 Great Grandchildren, 4 Great Great Grandchildren.
Mildred Fetalvero and Charlie Kahakauwila are her surviving siblings.
She worked at Treasure Craft, Tasty Crust, Hot Woke Café and Norman’s Happy Valley Café.
She dedicated her life in taking care of her children and their families. She gave words of wisdom and advice when asked. She enjoyed reading romance novels and loved playing Solitaire.
The family would like to thank Hospice Maui for their dedication, work and care. Mahalo to nurse Beverly and other staff members who were friendly, compassionate and thoughtful in caring for our mother in her final days.
Funeral service will be held at Borthwick Norman’s Mortuary, 105 Waiale Rd, Wailuku, Hi 96793, on Saturday, May 14, 2022. Family Visitation 8 am- 9am. Visitor Viewing 9am-10am. Service at 10:30 am. Burial at Maui Memorial Park Cemetery at 2pm.
