Obituary for Katherine "Kathy" Barr

Katherine (Kathy) Barr, 69, passed away on August 30, 2023, at her home in Haiku, Hawaii. She was surrounded by loving family members and friends during her final weeks.
Born in Washington, D.C., Kathy lived in Huntington, Long Island until age 14, when she moved to Miami with her family. Her adventurous spirit took her to Colorado, Maine, and finally to Maui, her forever home.
Kathy was a long- time resident of Haiku, and an active and cherished member of her community. Throughout her time in Maui, Kathy owned multiple businesses, including Hemp House in Paia, Maui Sun ‘n Surf in Lahaina, and Chauffeured Services, which took tourists to visit the beautiful sites all over Maui. Kathy could often be found driving to the airport to pick up tour groups several times a day, taking them to various vacation destinations. She loved her work, the people that she worked with, and those that she met on her journey.
Kathy was devoted to her beloved pets over the years. With a busy business to run, Kathy had little leisure time, but she loved the ocean and enjoyed watching the waves come in on Maui’s beautiful beaches, her favorite being Hookipa Beach. Kathy was happiest outside, and could often be found proudly riding her John Deere lawn mower and working on various DIY projects. An intensely spiritual person, Kathy was an active member of the former Church of Religious Science in Maui, where she met many of those who remained her close friends throughout her life.
Kathy was known for her generosity and big heart. She always made time to help those in need, as when she shared her loving spirit by volunteering at Hospice Maui. A regular at Mama’s Fish House, Kathy was well known to many of the staff there. She cherished new adventures and traveled frequently. Quick with a smile and a laugh, Kathy loved sharing a good meal and wine with those she loved.
Kathy is survived by her loving mother, Roxanne Barr, and by her sisters Patricia (Mark) Barr Walker, Cynthia Barr, Carolyn (Charlie) Barr, and her brother Larry (Iliana) Barr. Kathy is predeceased by her husband Neil Olsen, and by her brother Chris (Margaret) Barr, and sister Judith (John) Bachay.
